NFC proves the authenticity and rating of the collection

Collectibles are easily forged, such as sports cards, coins or autographs. With this in mind, Collectors Universe, located in Santa Ana, California, provides a third-party rating and certification service for collectors and transaction parties of collections. However, even if the service helps identify fraud, the counterfeiters are also trying to forge the certificates provided by Collectors Universe in addition to forging the collections themselves.
The Collectors Universe application provides authorized parties with data access to specific items. In response to this approach, Collectors Universe implemented a solution that utilizes NFC RFID technology and cloud-based authentication services provided by HID Global. The solution aims to prove that the certification certificate of the collection and the identity of the holder of the collection are authentic, and the seal of each collection is clear and tamper-proof. The purpose of this technology deployment is not only to prove the authenticity of the company's rating services and collectibles, but also to allow users to obtain this information through the use of smart phones that support NFC.
When the collectibles are returned to the sealed container, they will receive a certificate certifying that the items have been properly identified and graded and certified as authentic. Ratings include specifying the preservation status that affects the value of the item. If an item is deemed to be fake, no proof or holder is provided.
At the headquarters of Collectors Universe Santa Ana and other offices around the world, the company’s experts will carefully check the items for signs of fraud, and then assign a condition level on the Sheldon coin rating form, ranging from 1 to 70; or in sports In the card rank table, rank from 1 to 10.
Nielsen said: "We assign this level to let people know the third party's view of the condition of the item." Then, the employee puts the item in a sealed, transparent plastic frame and attaches a certificate.
Nielsen reports that the collectibles industry faces many challenges. Over time, counterfeiters have learned how to completely counterfeit products, or modify products to falsely increase their value. Some people have forged not only the product itself, but also the Collectors Universe holder and its certificate. “It’s like an arms race. Counterfeiters are looking for new ways to trick collectors and sellers into paying high prices for counterfeit items. So we started looking for solutions to solve this problem and allow customers to easily access data through smartphones. So we started cooperation with HID Global."
Earlier this year, Collectors Universe began deploying the final developed system for a few items. Since October 1, the company has implemented this technology in all its coin and banknote collections. The solution includes NFC tags that have been sealed in plastic frame containers. The HID 13.56 MHz NFC RFID technology deployed by the company complies with the ISO 14443 standard and utilizes HID's cloud-based Trusted Tag service to capture, parse and store data about the items attached to each tag. The Collectors Universe app can then provide authorized parties with access to specific item data.
Traditionally, certification and rating results are only printed on seals, but now these data are collected digitally. After the certification is completed, the collection will go through multiple review and quality assurance steps manually. The hidden NFC tag unique ID number is associated with detailed information such as collectibles and their ratings, all of which are stored in cloud-based software.
In addition, this technology can not only prove the authenticity of an item, but also the authenticity of its certification, so it provides collectors with a secondary security guarantee, which is also a value-added service that the company's competitors have not yet provided.
Nowadays, Trusted Tag service has been applied to various industries, including on-site services such as access control, attendance and guard duty. It also provides the authenticity of data associated with tagged products, such as the Collectors Universe application mentioned above.
