With people's increasing attention to food
safety issues, traditional food and beverage production can no longer meet user
needs. In order to ensure food safety, many countries (regions) have started to
adopt RFID technology and extended RFID devices, effectively promoting food
safety supervision by improving traceability and regulatory capabilities.
RFID technology can be applied in multiple
aspects of the food industry, ensuring the safety of food, effectively
controlling the occurrence of foodborne infectious diseases, and eliminating
the constraints of some laws and regulations on food import and export in
China, providing technical guarantees for the development of the food industry.
RFID technology enables monitoring of the
entire food production process from the source, which can be achieved from the
following aspects:
01 Traceability
Each piece of food is labeled with a
corresponding RFID electronic tag, which records the source manufacturer,
category, grade, and other information of food production. The system tracks
the entire production process of the food and backs up the data to the quality
inspection center, providing basic traceability data for government departments
and enterprises.
02 Fully automatic recognition
After adopting RFID electronic tag
technology, the information of each link is fully automatically recognized, and
production information of each link can be automatically obtained through fixed
or handheld readers.
03 Global monitoring
Real time monitoring of every link in the entire
chain from the source of food to the dining table.
04 Security
The use of unique RFID passive electronic
tags, with each tag encrypted and unable to be replicated, ensures the security
and stability of the RFID tag recognition process, making food safety more
reassuring.
Food is directly related to people's
physical health. Applying RFID technology to the food industry can effectively
ensure the real-time and accuracy of information collection, improve the level
of food safety and monitoring management, coordinate various links in the food
chain, increase people's understanding of food, and ensure food safety.
Tracking and tracing of food quality
RFID technology can ensure high-quality
data exchange in the food supply chain, thoroughly implement "source"
food tracking solutions, and provide full transparency in the food supply
chain. The RFID system can provide a connection between food and its source in
the food chain, ensuring the clarity of the food source to track specific
animals or plants and farms, thus achieving quality monitoring and traceability
from farmland to dining tables.
Shanghai has established a pork monitoring
system based on RFID technology, which places RFID ear tags on pig ears to
record information such as feed, medical records, feeding, herd transfer, and
quarantine of live pigs. Use RFID electronic tags for point-to-point
supervision at major city crossings and slaughterhouses to ensure that pigs
enter designated slaughterhouses. In wholesale markets, electronic tags are
used to record the origin, trading time, and safety testing results of pork
products entering the market for trading.
The Beijing Food Safety Supervision and
Coordination Office proposed in 2006 that in key breeding bases, RFID
technology should be used in various stages of slaughtering, production, and
circulation to achieve animal product breeding, acquisition, slaughter, and
segmentation by wearing ear and foot labels on animal products
